friendly place, vibrant atmosphere

Although there are other bars in the area that are cool too, I never manage to break away from this one. I like their simple bar foods, lots of veggie options and a pretty easy going menu, they have the good fat fries that make me feel like a kid again. The space is really good, there are a variety of seating arrangements, each set up in different way, all comfy, couchy. The music is fun. there's always a healthy crowd. And the bar staff are so friendly; in a city like London, wherever you get a staff member that is offering you the deals (beyond the happy hour deals, yes indeed), taking the time to explain things, making jokes while doing it and being friendly, with a smile- is a definite great place to me! Interesting art work hanging around, as well as the record sleeves on the wall that keep me mesmerized.
Plus, they're around the corner from Scala - great spot for pre-show meal and drinks.
Except Saturdays -- way too many people in there for me!

Great Smoking Roof

I'm not a fan of the Big Chill mini chain but there's no way I can hate on this place too much. I may not be a huge fan but it seems as if they have a better music policy here and the decor seems a lot more loungy.

However its the huge 2 tiered roof that makes this place so good - there's room for so mant people AND they have umbrellas - a good place for a pint a fag and a catch up.

Kings Cross may not be your first choice to go for a good night out as it has been stereotyped as rough and rundown. However, it does possess some trendy bars that are perfect for post work drinks for example, The Big Chill House. The bar/club as the name suggests is chilled. The lighting is dark red setting the venue with an intimate and relaxing atmosphere. On a small balcony that overlooks the bar there are authentic Moroccan style beds, ideal to lay on after a long day or to snuggle on with a partner. If you’re feeling peckish they serve an assortment of dishes and an exciting selection of fruity cocktails. Arrive on the right night and you may be privileged to hear a live band play. I went on a Tuesday and by 8pm it was buzzing like a bee’s hive! It’s open till late and is a perfect spot for a date or a fun (but not too intense) night out with your mates.

Big and airy lounge bar with loads of leather sofas and big old wingback armchairs that you don't want to crawl out of - ever, the ambience is decidedly chilled, but with an underlying frison of excitement thanks to the funky jazz tunes interspersed among the mellow beats. Somehow conspires to provide a relaxed atmosphere that at the same time has a lively edge to it. Staff were friendly and very efficient, although they make up for in enthusiasm what they lack in expertise when it comes to making cocktails and there were no shot glasses for my flaming Sambuccas! The best they could offer me were champagne flutes, which would probably do for most concoctions requiring a shot glass - so be prepared to compromise. The bar prices were a bit steep but quite normal for the area. Just up the street from King's Cross and a whisper away from the Thameslink station. Toward the back of the bar is a large area for live music, which was a Morcheeba-style crooner the night I was there. Played for about an hour and was pleasingly good. we left shortly after, but there was plenty entertainment to come as they have a later licence and a decent sized dance area. There is also a spacious wooden-decked terrace upstairs and a snug. I will be back...
