Too Cool For School

Melange is a great venue/bar/gallery space in the East End. Distant enough from the mess that one finds at Hoxton Square and Old Street to mellow out, yet popular enough to pull in an eclectic, hip crowd, this place is way cool. Some nights you'll find a DJ spinning, other nights a more casual sit down vibe with small groups engrossed in discussion. There's also an attached gallery downstairs (entrance is outside, down the side road a few steps) with rotating installations.
Beware that, as this place is not strictly a bar, it may not be open every night of the week. Also sadly there's no beer on tap, although prices for bottles are not too outrageous. Cool venue with cooler crowds (but not so self-consciously cool that they won't deign to speak to a stranger) make Melange a winner.

A Unique Must See!

This bar is the coolest bar in East London! The decor is antiquey, sultry, unconventional, totally comfortable, relaxed and uber cool. You feel like you're hanging out at a house party. There is nothing barish about this place. Drinks are cheap, they make food to order (just call 'em and say, 'hey, there's 5 of us coming for grub tonight and we want XYZ' and guess what, they will make it for you! Where in London does that happen? They have cool gigs there too. I went last night and saw Speakershoe and it was fab. The vibe reminded me of MTV Unplugged but on a smaller scale. This place is one that I'll be frequenting often...see you there!
