Where are the eastend folk?
May 25, 2008
A few of my friends and I went there in the afternoon for a couple drinks before going out in Shoreditch. I was excited to go sit near the pool but when we got there it was closed for a private party. So we didn't stay too long b/c it was such a nice day and we wanted to be outside. But we stayed long enough for me to check out the vibe. The afternoon is a lot different from the evening - or at least the evening I went. Chilled out mixture of people having a late lunch; women with bright red lipstick and dressed trendy; and men with their skinny jeans or shorts with flip flops. Definitely locals.
Before I got onto the evening, I have to comment on the decor. I love it! It's exactly what I'd want if I had an old warehouse loft living space. Exposed brick walls, cement ceilings with exposed beams and trendy, but eclectic furniture with funky lights. It works. I like it.
After the sun went down, we came back and ended up playing table tennis and pool. Not exactly what I would have had in mind but it was really fun. The people are completely different at night: Notting Hill, Westend crowd. Older, posher, no sign of east-end cool anymore. No hipsters that are out on the streets nearby. It was packed though so whatever the crowd, they're doing something right, just not for the eastenders.
