Idlewild has created a whole new category for those looking for a night (or day) out. Best described as a Pub Restaurant Deluxe, it features a classic British menu and bar quality cocktails, in a venue which is quite stunningly unique.

Great place...cool jazz on Sundays

The Idlewild is great: The brunch food was really good (better than Gordon Ramsey's fare at The Warwick close by), the place is cool, and the upstairs lounger is quite cool on Sundays with DJs and Jazz. One of my favourite"hidden" places in Maida Vale

The Wild Idle of Maida Vale

3.0 out of 5.0

October 22, 2007

I'm not sure yet how the locals feel about Idlewild. Its another of the 'Ruby' stable, following on from their other gastropubs around Notting Hill. I noticed some graffiti in Maida Vale the other day that read 'rich wild idle on Shirland Road'. Gone is the grubby, slot machined, slightly dodgy Truscott Arms and in its place a cocktail bar upstair and pretty fancy gastro-restaurant downstairs. There is very little standing room downstairs, it is really designed to be a restaurant. The food is good but pretty pricey with main courses above the £15 mark. They need to do some work on the layout downstairs as its difficult to get around the tables which can be half empty but the bar heaving. However the food is good and definitely an option for a nice meal.
