Fabulously little quirky place on Lordship Lane which tempts with a window display of dinky cakes and baked goods.
The interior is all mismatched furniture and hundreds of chandeliers (of course). It’s a bit of a Tardis as well - despite appearing small from the outside, inside is a huge room towards the back and an upstairs seating area.
We came expecting a simple breakfast of coffee and pastries, but much to our delight we discovered they also served bacon sandwiches with meat from the famous Willam Rose butchery across the road. The sandwiches were excellent and the servings of a generous size. My one quibble was that they didn’t serve ketchep or brown sauce with them. Sacrilege! Next time I plan to be cheeky and bring a secret stash. Elsewhere on the menu we spotted a variety of savoury small dishes, alongside a cocktail list, and an extensive selection of loose teas.
Having originally come for the sweeter things, we couldn’t resist a couple of slices of cake to take home – after much deliberation we decided on a giant piece of carrot cake and a chocolate cherry slice – both excellent and extremely moreish.
If you live anywhere in or near SE22, you have no excuse not to come here.
