amazing live music for free

4.0 out of 5.0

I went to this place only once, but they had a line up of musicians who just got better and better. They were all great, up to the last one who just made everyone dance like crazy. He combined scatt, jazz, and jungle and was absolutely wild. I wish I could see him again...
But in the meantime, there was also a hat party going on and everybody there was wearing amazing headpieces, from funky toppers to sculpted birdcages, it was great!
otherwise, downstairs, where the bar is, is like any good old pub, low key and cool with a dj playing music.
it was a friday and lots and lots of fun!

Lose yourself

I have lost myself LOADS in here. Lots of debauchery and fun has been had.

It's a great venue (shabby chic) with loads of weird and amazing bands playing upstairs. Laughing gas comes out on special occasions and mental stuff happens at halloween.

It's great for people watching as it seems to be where all the trendy Nathan Barley east-end kids hang out.

Kele the lead singer from Bloc Party once described this place as 'a vortext of evil' and yes if you were party to the amount of lock-ins that used to happen here it probably was. Owned by Vice magazine its an ex east end boozer turned hipster hang out that in my opinion is awesome.

Its scruffy inside and full of kids that make you realize how old you have become but its also a great place to let loose and have some fun.

They have live bands and DJs pretty much every night of the week and at the weekend you don't have to pay to get upstairs.

It is however a den of iniquity and its very likely that once there you will stay to the bitter end and regret everything the next morning although I see this as a testament to the music that the DJs and bands play.
