Funky cinema with interesting films
April 03, 2008
I’ve been going to the Screen cinemas since I moved to London 5 years ago. First it was the Screen on Baker Street where we first lived and now the Screen on the Green has become our local. Although we live next to the massive Vue cinema complex and oftentimes they have the same movie, I always try to patronage the Screen first. I feel compelled to support the independent cinemas as they are becoming rare. You will mainly get indie films but occasionally big names too. Usually films that seem to win awards at Sun Dance or Venice film festivals.
The Screen on the Green isn’t as fancy as big name cinemas or compared to the newly refurbished Screen on Baker Street where they serve wine and beer, but it’s simple with a single ticket booth and one person working the tiny snack stand where you can get the usual sweets including Green & Blacks products. The seating in the cinema could use an update since they probably have the original velour chairs that have obtained some lumps throughout the years, but I don’t ever leave with a backache and I don’t recall them being uncomfortable; kind of like an old couch that has lost its lustre but is still cosy.
