The Eagle is one of the first pubs to introduce a modern and creative menu which changes every day, and transforms into a high-end eatery. There are separate chefs in the lunch times and in the evenings and the service is very efficient. Latin and Reggae songs are played as background music. Seating on the pavement area is provided.

Gastropub food in a Spanish style

4.0 out of 5.0

November 02, 2008

The Eagle is the original gastropub and does a daily selection of excellent food in a Spanish style.

It has a great signature steak sandwich that is a huge lunch. It also does a mean range of non-alcoholic cocktails including an excellent virgin mary.

It is a small pub though and gets busy quickly so it is wise to get there early.

THE gastropub original

4.0 out of 5.0

The Eagle actually was the first gastropub in London, great food and great beer in the Farringdon area, which invites for a relaxed lunch on a Sunday or a nice, unplanned evening meal. If it should be a more formal affair though there could be a problem as you can't make reservations, it however shares this attribute with most other gastropubs in London with few exceptions. In this case you have to go to a restaurant type place or check out `The Easton` just 5 minutes up the road in Easton Street, who have equally good food.

Great food in a cool place.

I went there with some friends and family and had a great Italian inspired dish. There where plenty of people in there, but it wasn't hard to get up to the counter to order. The staff was friendly and fast, price wasn't bad for the quality of food we received. If I remember correctly, we shared a table with some other patrons, but that's no problem at all after a couple glassess of wine and striking up a conversation.

Great Pub Great Food

It's been several years since I've been to The Eagle and I only had the opportunity to go once but it was well worth it. I love good food but hate getting dressed up. Coming from Seattle I'm not used to wearing a tie. Enjoying a gourmet meal in a relaxed setting is one of my favourite things in life. The Eagle definitely satisfied this criteria. I only gave this a 4 out of 5 instead of 5 out of 5 since it's been so long since my last visit and I couldn't guarantee how it has fared over the intervening years.

The original gastropub

I went to The Eagle with some locals who explained to me the concept of a gastropub. I also learned from my guides that The Eagle was one of the original gastropubs in London. It may be one of the original gastropunbs but it is certainly the best. The food here was excellent. I ordered the roast chicken with mash and a pint of bitter. Heaven!

You'll enjoy this place not because they serve great food, but because of the home-style confort that this place offers.
