Friendly and intimate

3.0 out of 5.0

I've priced this as 'steep' because the next step down is 'moderate'. Went there for a family xmas dinner last night due to other recommendations on tipped.

My wife said her venison was extremely good and my mother's pear and gorgonzola cheese starter, despite sounding like whole pears and being slivers, was very refined supported with an anise dressing and rocket.

They both enjoyed their shared dessert too. I however found my main -- the vege dish -- only ok. Not in the class of Roka or Provedores but it didn't have to be. 2x starters, 3x mains, bottle of table Rioja, 1 dessert, 1 espresso, £84. Mains £12+ (+service)

Service was extremely attentive and friendly -- there being only 8 tables possibly helped this. Noise level was reasonable because of its intimate setting to. Nice decor, great location. It's amazing how much noise just a few londoners can make though.

Would suggest they start following the trend of leaving service as a decision for the patrons rather than including it by default but in this case was very happy to pay the 12.5%.

Good meals, good prices

4.0 out of 5.0

March 03, 2008

I'm new to town and I was looking for a nice place that wasn't fancy, stuffy or overpriced. After reading the reviews here, I decided to try out Aurora Cafe, and I was not disappointed. I had a delicious vegetarian meal, some soup and a poached pear with chocolate sauce and ice cream for dessert.

The atmosphere was relaxed and not too noisy, with most diners in jeans. And the paintings on the walls were interesting, though I was with my parents and they did make some comments about how many naked men were up there.

Everything was also reasonably priced -- I don't think there were any entrees over £14.

Thanks for the recommendation!

A gem

This was supposed to be my best-kept secret in Soho...not anymore ;) I love this place for the intimate atmosphere, the wonderful menu and the little garden...a little 'peace' in the middle of Soho! A fresh, innovative menu that has never let me down the 6 years that I have been going there...you won't be disappointed!

In the heart of Soho

5.0 out of 5.0

I agree with everyone here: Aurora is definitely one of my favourite restaurants in London -- the atmosphere is cosy and intimate, the staff are friendly and I've always had great food there. There is always a choice of meat, chicken, vegetarian, and the cloistered garden is a real treat, and they have just installed an awning and heaters, so the garden will still be used in the winter.

2nd to Andrew Edmunds

4.0 out of 5.0

Aurora has the reputation of, `if you can't get in to Andrew Edmunds, then book across the street at Aurora's.` But there is something unique in this gem of a restaurant. It's great for a birthday dinner for 10 or even a romantic dinner for two -- you can't go wrong. The room downstairs is more intimate than upstairs in my opinion, but there will always be something unique on the menu. I've never had a bad meal or experience at Aurora. Book a reservation...go on, I dare you.

Soho Chic

5.0 out of 5.0

One of my favourites in Soho. This restaurant only has about 10 tables and changes the menu once a month. But don't fret regardless of the menu change the food has always been amazing and they make sure to cover a selection of meat, seafood, and veg. It is the perfect place for a special lunch or a romantic dinner. A must try!

Always a treat!

5.0 out of 5.0

I agree totally with Amy's and Victoria's reviews below, from the warm and friendly service to the relaxed, intimate atmosphere and the ever-changing but always delicious menu. Not the place for a big gathering, but perfect for two or a small group. One proviso, when you book try to get a table upstairs. I found the room downstairs a bit claustrophobic, as the neighbouring table got liquored and louder and louder! Slightly marred the only not quite perfect evening of many cherished visits.

The original artwork on the walls is tasteful and for sale, although my favourite is long gone! And a special treat on a balmy Summer's afternoon or evening is the small but beautifully charming courtyard-style garden.

Intimate dinners & lunches!

I absolutely love this restaurant! The food, wine, service, atmosphere and location are all great! They have a small menu that changes monthly - a variety of scrumptious starters and mains - so you'll never get bored! It’s good for family, friends and close clients and they have an outside area with small tables for when the sun decides to grace London with its presence! I've never been disappointed! Big piece of advice - you need to book - as it’s not only popular with me it seems!
