The best place for steak
August 22, 2007
I've been to The Gaucho Grill several times now, all on the company ticket, and all amazing. These guys really know how to do a great steak and it's always perfectly cooked just as you've asked for it (a rare thing, no pun intended). They even bring out the various raw cuts to show you each kind, although I always go for the 225g fillet. You can try a sample of 3 different steaks too if you're hungry and can't decide what cut to get.
A 225g fillet will cost you around £20, then you pay extra for the sauces such at Bernaise, mushroom, chipolte, peppercorn, etc, and you also pay extra for any side dishes. 225g is the smallest you can get and it's still hearty. I rarely finish it if I've had a starter. Then it goes up to 300g and beyond. For the really hungry, you can get something even larger than what's listed on the menu. Scary but I'm sure that's what my husband would order.
They also have a wide selection of specialty seafood dishes too such as grilled salmon or whole seabass or a South American seafood stew with monkfish, muscles, scallops and prawns cooked with potates, asparagas in a saffron broth. I'm always tempted to try this dish, then change my mind last minute and choose the steak.
There's something for everyone on this menu, even for the non-steak lovers.
I also really enjoy the various ceviche staters they have from monkfish to salmon, to lobster or a sample of all 3 for £17.
They offer a good wine list and their cocktails (esp the mojito) are outstanding.
I would say the only drawback is how dark the restaurant is, which I know is typical for a steak house. It was also really cold when we were there. But the service was impeccable.
