I saw this post on Nic Brisbourne’s blog The Equity Kicker http://www.theequitykicker.com/2008/04/15/dont-believe-what-you-read/ and thought you might like it. He read on Communities Dominate Brands that some of Lonely Planet’s content is actually made up - http://communities_dominate.blogs.com/brands/2008/04/some-traditiona.html. Here’s the extract: Thomas Kohnstamm, co-author of a dozen Lonely Planet guides to Latin America and the Caribbean, has written his own book. In it he tells how the life of a travel writer is one of poor pay, dealing drugs to make ends meet, cribbing information from other sources and, in one case, failing to visit the country he was writing about.
