The 2009 Annual Open Exhibition of United Society of Artists will run from Tuesday 18th to Saturday 22nd August at the Menier Gallery (Southwark Street, London SE1 1RU). The show will be open from 10am until 6pm everyday with a Private View, 6pm –8:45pm, on the first evening.
The exhibition is an opportunity to purchase, at realistic prices, paintings, fine art prints, post cards, greeting cards, and sculptures that have a domestic dimension so making them suitable for any home or office. The works include a much wider spectrum of subjects and styles compared with any other artists’ associations. Landscapes, seascapes and riverscapes as well as garden scenes and still life paintings are displayed alongside portraits and clothed and nude figure studies. Hence buyers can select from the figurative or the abstract in oils, watercolours, acrylics, pastels, pencil and pen and ink. Original cast and carved sculptures can also be bought while prints, using traditional techniques such as etchings, linocuts and screenprinting, are also on sale.
In addition to purchasing original works and prints, visitors can commission works from those artists they admire or arrange demonstrations, tutoring or critiques for themselves or for clubs and groups where they paint.
