Wow - just heard about this, Walthamstow dog track is closing in August - I've lived in London about 8 years and have never been - I guess I'd better sort that out. Has anyone else been?

I think the shame about this is if you click on the BBC story, you see the various related stories (under See Also): "Retired Grayhounds are Abandoned", "Greyhound Racing 'Needs Change'", "Badly Treated Dogs Head for Jersey". I guess we can recognize the cultural significance of a neighbourhood fixture going away after 75 years, but at the same time maybe it's overdue?

i've been to the one in Wimbledon just to see what dog racing was about...

The one in wimbledon is pretty dirty, filled with Australians ... which was pretty weird? i guess they're into anything thats sinister :)

i'd guess i would recommend going, just to see the legendary old school people that cruise around. Filled to the brim with comic book characters!
