So I've been living in London for coming on 9 months now, but I realize that apart from a day trip to Bath/Stonehenge, I've never set foot outside the capital! I have, in previous visits to the UK, been out to Wales and Cambridge, but I am thinking that I'd like to try and see some more of Britain before I leave this summer.

What are the essential things to see? Cities to go to, places to visit (I've heard Lake Counties are really lovely for a hike, for instance). I'm looking at short, maybe weekend trips, but I'd love to hear anybodies advice about what I ought to see before its too late!

I hear Whitstable is good this time of year http://www.seewhitstable.com/ - never really hung out on the South Coast apart from Brighton but a lot of friends go on about it.

I highly recommend Cornwall - beautiful beaches and foodie heaven! Personally I like to go in the warmer months (but try to go before/after the school holiday period to avoid the major crowds). But there's also a lot to be said for rugged coastal scenery and warm cosy country pubs during the autumn/winter. Padstow is of course infamous for Rick Stein's empire but there is a hive of activity on the food front if you do a bit of research. Cornish pasties, fish and chips and cornish ice cream are just some of the must dos. Also don't miss lovely St. Ives, Truro cathedral, the lost gardens of Heligan, the Eden Project, St. Michael's mount, Trelissick gardens, The Pandora Inn (Mylor)... gosh i could go on and on!! Stanstead - Newquay is around 45 minutes via plane.

You're leaving?:/Didn't know...So before it's too late, you need to visit Edinburgh. The best option is to take a train as you can do some sightseeing at the same. The Old Town and New Town are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage- so you can't miss them and they will certainly look good in an album:) I'd advise to go to Edinburgh at the beginning of August as there is going to be annual Edinburgh Festival. You won't be disappointed as it's marvellous! Lots of independent events, alternative theatres, gigs and lovely people. And probably me:)

I wouldn't waste time on Birmingham unless you're devoted fan of Black Sabbath, UB40 or Led Zeppelin and want to see how your 'heroes' live/lived. There's nothing special there, just factories and warehouses.

I just went to Hastings last weekend - nice place to sit on the beach and do nothing, but more fun if you really enjoy mini golf, arcades full of claw machines, and walking around town shirtless.

Oh! And if you are going to join FBI, you just need to go to see Stonehenge and dope out its secret:)
