Clarkenwell!

Yes the third installment of the Tipped Urban Ramble is upon us this Thursday evening so lace up your boots, charge your camera battery and prepare yourself for adventure.

We like to keep it topical here at Tipped and what with the passing of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn this week we thought we'd start the walk at the Crown Tavern in Clarkenwell Green. What's this pub got to do with that? Well.... actually its a quiz - first person to tell me the connection wins a pint or a Solzhenitsyn book.

Anyway meet here

http://www.tipped.co.uk/listings/9343/The%20Crown%20Tavern

at 7pm or call me if you arrive later 07989 449 048

See you then

PS - check out the photos from the previous couple of rambles

Ugh it would appear that the first thing I've learned about the area is that its actually spelt CLERKENWELL - no As - bottom of the class for me!

I'm guessing that you're referring to the story that Lenin and Stalin once met for a beer at the Crown Tavern (back when it was the Crown and Anchor) - Stalin being the guy who tossed Solzhenitsyn into prison. Am I right?

I'll see you on Thursday!

Unless you happen have a Solzhenitsyn book at the ready, I'll gladly have a pint. And all for being a quiz nerd - woo hoo!

Too bad there isn't a Hungarian restaurant in Clerkenwell called "The Goulash Archipelago"...

Well you can't have my copy of Ivan Denisovitch but if there's one you haven't read then let me know - you won fair and square.

Crap, how did that happen? I hate when I accidentally double-post - must have happened when I reloaded the page... See, Joel, apparently not so smart.

Anyhow, I think Ivan Denisovitch is all I've read from him anyway. Let's stick with the pint plan.

Thanks to everyone that joined us on the third ramble. We didn't find Lenin's house and even my awesome blagging skills couldn't get us into Charter House but we did learn that Clerkenwell has a rediculous selection of beers on offer and we definately tried a few.
