Hey so I watched American Splendor last night for the first time and was blown away, the whole thing was awesome the way it switched from the cast to the actual people that the story is based on - I realise that I've only ever read a couple of Graphic Novels

- Maus by Art Speigelman http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maus - first one I ever read and its still my favorite

- Palestine by Joe Sacco http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestine_(Sacco_comic) - also awesome

- City of Glass by Paul Auster http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_Glass:_The_Graphic_Novel actually its an adaptation of one of his books but its really good.

Anyway I'm up for reading some more any recommendations?

I read Maus a couple weeks ago (so late in the game) and I was very touched by it. I have TONS of recommendations for you. I'd let you borrow them, but sadly most of my collection is in Barcelona and Berkeley! But here they are anyway:

- Blankets by Craig Thompson http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blankets_(graphic_novel) - it's a beautiful coming of age story. Very lengthy and touching.

- Goodbye Chunky Rice also by Craig Thompson http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodbye_chunky_rice - this is more of a fable, but still very good. The characters are surprisingly real and complex.

- Shortcomings by Adrian Tomine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adrian_Tomine - I love Tomine. There is a loneliness that resonates in all of his characters, that you can't quite put your finger on, but can relate to.

- Epileptic by David B. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epileptic_(graphic_novel) - This graphic novel was actually translated from French. It's an autobiographical story about his childhood and growing up with an epileptic brother. I love David B.'s drawing style. He tells his story in a maze of lines and figures. Some of the panels in this books are brillant!

Do enjoy! And update on your reads.

Another recommendatiion that I think you'd like Superspy by Matt Kindt (www.supersecretspy.com). It's about the personal lives of spies during WWII told in a series of interwoven short stories. I think they might have it at Gosh Comics (http://www.tipped.co.uk/listings/59959/Gosh). I met the author at Comic-Con earlier this summer.... he's so awkwardly awesome.

Seconded for Epileptic.

However, you have to read Watchmen before the movie comes out. And then pretty much everything else by Alan Moore. V for Vendetta is a lot better than its movie might have suggested.

Autobiography-wise I quite like John Porcellino (http://www.king-cat.net/).

Ohhhhh I was just checking out Watchman yesterday after watching the trailer. On a side note I really want to see Waltz With Bashir http://waltzwithbashir.com/ that new animated feature about the Lebanon war.
