What your mama told ya

This is one of a chain of restaurants burgeoning in London. The ambiance is utilitarian as opposed to cosy and everyone is seated on communal wooden benches where you can see the open plan kitchen (which I always approve of). The menu consists of traditional rice and noodle dishes, some with a twist, such as the wasabi chocolate fudge cake.

The food is cooked to order and comes as and when it is ready, so be prepared for it to arrive separately from the rest of your party. The food is good value and the quality does not suffer because of this is.

The staff in this branch are always pleasant and efficient. On our last visit I left my credit card behind and when I went back the following morning I found to my surprise that the Manager had kept it safe in the till for me. I tried to leave a tip by way of thanks but he insisted that it was all part of the service - what more can I say...

let's do it French style!

This is a great bistro with a very authentic French feel right in the middle of Islington.

We have eaten here on a number of occasions as the food is consistently good and great value. This is why we opted to have our Christmas day meal here for the 2nd year running and found that this is the 15th year Le Sacre Coeur has been open on Christmas day. There was a set 3 course menu with offerings ranging from roast beef, sea bass with scallops to a Tuscan bean pie for vegetarians - note the lack of turkey! The Christmas day meal was exceptionally good value at £30 a head, complete with crackers and lots of seasonal cheer. The staff were very friendly, as always, and made the occasion with their Santa hats. There was lots of nice detail with the food, which was obviously produced by a chef who loves cooking.

I'm sure we will be back next year.....or even sooner for the amazing Sunday roasts!!

Great place to call in for a drink on the way home from work. Lovely building and atmosphere with a good selection of wines and beers. This place is always popular with the after-work crowd and I find it hard to walk past without stopping off for a pint! I have eaten here quite a few times and the food seems to be improving. The staff are always very friendly staff and you have to check out the grotto downstairs.

Fantastic place for a night on the pull!!

Great local boozer tucked away in Islington. This pub has a very laid back feel with a fair selection of beer and wine, foods ok and the music is cool.
Back in the late 70's i visited a pub in London which had
mannequins hanging from the ceiling, but i couldn't remember what it was called or where it was. Fast forward to 2007 and now living in Islington checking out the local bars i stumbled across the Island Queen. Turns out this was the pub i originally visited, the mannequins no longer hang from the ceiling, they now reside in the celler.
