Le Chateau Ali Nottingham Reviews

Superb hospitality but awful food - After having passed this restaurant many times whilst going to other places to eat we thought it was time to give it a try. I wished I’d read the reviews here first.

We were seated in the very comfortable ‘lounge’ area to begin with while we perused the menu, chatted to our friends and nibbled on the four different bowls of nuts, olives, etc which had arrived. The owner, Ali eventually came to take our order after about 30mins. He was charming and open to recommend various dishes from the menu. We ordered both our food and wine. Our wine arrived in the lounge area and so we asked for it to be taken to our table but they insisted it was left with us. That should have been a warning of the time we would have to wait!

Eventually we were seated at our table after having been in the restaurant for 1hr 15mins. They had provided us all with a huge bowl of salad as an appetiser. Our starters arrived. All huge portions and quite non descript. With another long wait between the starters and main course we were entertained by the other customers. One couple complained about their main course and then walked out. Another table complained about their long wait. Eventually our food did arrive we were all shocked at the amount of chilli used in these dishes. Two of us had ordered Coq au Vin only to find it was more like a chicken curry! Now don’t get me wrong I am all in favour of using chilli sparingly in European dishes but the amount used here was ridiculous.

We decided to skip the desserts and just have coffee. Ali then returned to our table to check on us and how we had enjoyed our meals. I pointed out to him that he was a little over zealous with the chilli for my taste and was told that I could have asked for non to have been used. The trouble with that one is that no where on the menu, or in discussion with him, did it say that chilli was the main ingredient in all of his dishes!

I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone but Gordon Ramsay…..he may well be able to sort it out but I won’t hold my breath.

Uncovering a fraud - I am writing this in the hope that someone who wants a job at this restaurant will check some reviews first. If you are considering applying here, I beg you to reconsider, for this restaurant is run by a charlatan and a fraud. He and his partner Joy will lure you in with a promise of a job at the end of his four-week "training" period, in which time you will be paid nothing for back-breaking labour. You will not be trained, you will merely be at his beck and call, and towards the end of the four weeks, his friendly facade will fall and you'll see his true colours. He will become angry, unpleasant and try to drive you away, in the hope that you'll leave, and he won't have to pay you after all. Then he can wait for the next batch of "trainees" to provide him with free labour and repeat the cycle.

I implore you, do not fall for the bright lights; walk away

Surprisingly Poor - This restaurant seems to specialise in poorly cooked overly complicated meals. Our rare steaks were like the soles of a pair of well worn shoes. We could not recommend it. In fact, we could recommend avoiding it.

A wonderful gem in Nottingham - This is a truly wonderful restaurant. My group received an extremely warm reception and were invited to sit and peruse the menu in a quiet section of the restaurant whilst being offered nibbles. The waiting staff were simply amazing (apparently they are trained for weeks before they officially start serving) The menu is very extensive and the food was superb.

This is a real gem to find in the heart of Nottingham and definitely worth every penny. Furthermore the chef was incredibly hospitable and visited every table. Can't wait to return!

I AM A CELEBRITY GET ME OUT OF HERE - I have given this restaurant a score as one as there is no zero option. As a celebrity, I would like to say that quite clearly this is NOT celebrity territory. This is quite possibly the WORST dining experience I have ever had. The food was late coming out and burnt and unappitising when it finally arrived. EVERYONE in my party of 20 - thought the food was cold and badly cooked and when I complained to the management, I was met with abuse, and complete denial. I was thoroughly dissapointed with my evening, as was everyone who came for dinner. DO NOT UNDER ANY CICUMSTANCES GO TO THIS RESTAURANT. ITS TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Things I'd rather do..... - ...than visit Chateau Ali again:
1. Sell my grandmother to the Taliban
2. Donate to the British National Party
3. Gouge out my own eyes

This, believe me, is the worst restaurant in the history of mankind. I cannot begin to tell you how bad it is, but if you fancy undercooked school dinners (we are talking raw cauliflower and leeks here, not al dente), and almost an hour to get your first course - for £30 a head for two courses - then you are a braver and more stupid man than I. Seriously, go to McDonalds, eat a rancid salmonella-infused kebab, do ANYTHING rather than eat at Chateau Ali.
