Moreno Hair Design London Reviews

classy cutting - The peevish Backstreet Brush-off says more about the reviewer than about Moreno Hair Design. OK, they're not cheap, but they're in a pricey central convenient location. The salon is tiny, so if a client arrives late, that can throw any schedule off, but every customer gets minutely attentive and unhurried attention. I only need to go twice a year, so I don't begrudge the cost. On the contrary, it's money well spent. The compliments come free!

If you just want a cheap haircut, there are plenty to be had all over London. If, on the other hand, you want a superb cut that will last, go to Moreno.

Backstreet brush off - A foreigner arrives in London and finds the need for a hair cut. The refrain whirring over in the brain becomes: "Where to go, where to go? How much to spend? How to avoid another costly London rip off?"

Fortuitously, on the way home from work one evening the foreigner notices a sign just outside the exit from the Sloane Square tube station promoting a hair salon.

It's called Moreno Hair Design and it's on a backstreet beside the tube station.

The following Saturday, I (OK, I confess, I am the foreigner) pop into the shop to ask if they can cut my hair later in the day and I am told the cut will cost 60 pounds.

I figure that's probably the going rate in these parts and choose an appointment time of 4:45 p.m. The first thing that struck me as bizarre was that the stylist who booked the appointment used the 24-hour clock on the appointment card.

Instead of writing 4:45 p.m., he wrote 16:45 p.m. on the card. Now everyone knows that the point of using the 24-hour clock is so that one doesn't need to distinguish between a.m. and p.m. There is no such time as 16:45 p.m.

I went off and met my friends for lunch at The Phoenix (previously panned by yours truly on the Tipped site) and an afternoon of roaming around the King's Road.

I then arrived at 4:45 p.m. for the appointment. The stylist who was supposed to cut my hair was busily blow drying another patron's hair.

They took my coat and covered me in a black cape of some sort to prevent the hair from falling on my clothes. I was then given a stack of fashion magazines to read and left to simmer while the stylist obsessively blew dry hair.

And simmer I did until half an hour passed and my wrath boiled over.

I got up and ripped off the cape and said I wanted to go. Johnny blow dryer protested that he was only going to be a minute. I told him I didn't want to wait any longer and I was leaving.

For 60 pounds I didn't think it was right that I should be left sitting for so long, but also I didn't want to spend all that time having my hair blow dried.

The chap who had procured the magazines and cape feigned surprise that I'd been waiting for a half an hour.

I asked him to get my coat. Then I said in a loud voice: "I just want to leave."

The chap who was supposed to have cut my hair said: "OK, just go then!"

What amazing customer relations skills.

Went to Vidal Sassoon on Sloane Street later in the week.
