Well deserved Visit York 2014 Winne - Having run a small 5 star B&B for 10 years we find it very interesting to experience being 'the other side of the fence' and one can be very critical at times.
Carlton House has 13 rooms and is more like a small hotel but with a personal touch and run by a lovely couple Mark & Mel. Its easy to run a small B&B like we had but 13 rooms is a mammoth task yet they seem to have it under control and running like clockwork.
From check-in to check-out, reccomends for restaurants to the eggs at breakfast everything was to perfection.
From location, room, decor, hosts and there staff we couldnt have asked for more.

You'll struggle to a find better B& - Stayed last year and couldn't wait to return so jumped at the chance of a last minute 2 nights away.
We were instantly recognised and warmly welcomed by Melanie at check-in who offered to help us to the room with our numerous bags. Our 2nd floor room was warm, bright, clean, spacious and although at the front of the building was surprisingly quiet despite it being on the main road.
Arriving late Mark had booked us into Oxo's restaurant a stones throw over the road, 1 word describes the food and service 'FANTASTIC'
The breakfast here is a MUST. The tastiest bacon & sausage ever and vine tomatoes not the horrible tinned ones you usually get when away from home coupled with friendly service with a smile from a lovely waitress.
What makes Carlton House stand out are the Xtra little touches, decent toiletries, magazines and that they put the bedside lights on for us as we arrived after dark.

Fantastic stay - We visited York and stayed at the Carlton House for 3 nights.
The couple who run in could not have been more helpfull.
Lovely clean modern room in an elegant Georgian townhouse. Breakfast was fantastic and set you up for the day. Free car park at rear.
Ww will definately book the Carlton again when we next stay in York.
We recommend this hotel to everyone whether a family or couples.
Reccomended The Old Siam restaurant and had a superb meal.
