Not quite great... - I was here the other night with a large group of us for an early Christmas dinner. It's weird just reading the scathing review by Alex T. because the Hat and Feathers came highly recommended to me.

While we were waiting for everyone to turn up the waiter did seem to forget about us and was tardy with bringing the wine over and they did make a couple of other mistakes - we'd asked specifically for one Turkey main without bacon and they bought it with bacon anyway and they forgot to take our deposit off the final bill (glad I spotted that one), but otherwise they couldn't have really done more service-wise. They were cool with us playing with fake snow and we even got a complimentary round of cava.

The food itself was good, everyone at our table enjoyed their meal. Although the Christmas menu puddings aren't that great (you call that a cheesecake?!). The servings are hearty, but I reckon it is a little overpriced for what it is.

But overall I enjoyed my evening at the Hat & Feathers. I won't be rushing back, but if I happened to be in the area I would probably stop by. 08-12-08

McPub - I watched for many long months as this fabulous building, with so much potential, was slowly renovated to re-open for its original purpose: as a public house. I loved the choice of canary-custard yellow with white detailing for the exterior and thought (hoped) that this might be indicative of a longer-term relationship between me and what could become my most local 'local'...if only they didn't go and ruin it. The interior has been stripped out and made all light-and-airy at the expense of any sense of atmosphere, not at all helped my the radio mu-zac blearing solelessly each time I have been in. The furnishing gives off an any-pub-anywhere odour which only emphasises the general obliteration of character. The refreshments on offer are boring, boring, boring. The service is curt. I suspect what saves it - and probably appeals to the majority (making my thoughts utterly meaningless to management!) - is the large deck area to the side ready with tables and umbrellas for the work party special (and the smokers). Maybe I'm just not part of the target market? Doesn't lessen the disappointment one bit. It could have been so good... 04-08-07
